TPU Coated Belts

Thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is widely used in food processing as a belt coating material as it offers:

  • High flexibility even at low temperatures (down to -30 °C)
  • Excellent abrasion resistance
  • Good resistance to vegetable or animal fats and oils
  • High wear resistance
  • No use of plasticizers
  • No bacterial growth on belt surfaces
  • No micro-cracks on belt surfaces

Habasit’s coating technology ensures a superbly smooth surface, no porosity of the coating layers, and a homogeneous belt thickness. The two main ranges of TPU coated belts include belts with antimicrobial features.

 

Antimicrobial belts

Habasit offers dedicated ranges of TPU belts featuring antimicrobial additives. Specially designed for the food industry, these conveyor and processing belts contain an antimicrobial additive that prevents the growth of spoilage micro-organisms on the belt surface. The antimicrobial additive remains effective even in areas that are difficult to clean. It does not affect the taste of the foodstuff conveyed.

Due to the variety of regulations in force in different markets, Habasit offers a choice of belt ranges, with additives appropriate to each set of requirements:

General purpose belts
TPU general purpose belts – these deliver the valuable mechanical advantages of TPU coated belts.

HabaGUARD antimicrobial belts
The additive used is FDA compliant and EPA approved for use in direct food contact materials such as conveyor belts, and can therefore be used in the USA and Canada.
