Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO)

Thermoplastic elastomer

Thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) is a family of polymers produced from an olefin (CnH2n) base material. Many varieties of TPO are present everywhere in our daily lives (e.g. poly-α-olefin (PAO) synthetic motor oil, EVA hotmelt adhesives, etc.). The most common and well-known polyolefinic materials are polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP), which are widely used in packaging and clothing. The chemical structures of TPOs provide interesting features for the belting business, such as: hydrophobicity, high chemical resistance, food-contact suitability, and excellent release behavior.

Habasit uses various different grades of TPO, along with some specifically developed TPOs. A new proprietary re-formulated Habilene® compound is used for our Habasit Cleanline® belts, which now offer improved abrasion resistance. Other TPO grades are used in our O line and P line ranges for the tobacco industry to meet specific industry needs.
